Unit 3 blog entry

Part A
In this unit I learned that Protectionism means rules and etc to make trade and movement of goods more difficult.
I found it really intresting that Free Trade is with out or with few restrictions because in the begining of this unit I thought that it was giving countries free things with out rules.
I can connect what i have learned in class to no other class but if i had to say something i would choose english because we used some of the termsin english.
What suprised me in this unit was the lack of help from the goverment to the people who worked hard ona business for it to be thrown away after a few years.
One concept i am still having difficulty with is the booklet i feel like i don't have enough time to finish it! Other then that i'm not having any problems.
One question i still have is why wouldent the goverment help the people starting a buiness?
One skill or learning stratergy i found use full was Still the word wheel it helps alot to understand the words.
I remember it by doing them at home with word i already learned.

PartB
Free trade is trade with out restrictions or with few rules. Protectionism is used to help prevent free trade and stop trade barriers. This may stop developing countries but developed counrties are already involved with free trade that is happing. Economicnationalism is not being supporeted by goverment whitch means no tariffs. Subsidys are being given to WTO Which is helping trade liberlization.

Part C
I thought this picture was a great example of protectionism because the chances represent not letting any bad things into the world.Such as bad materials and people. This way no one will take over the counrty.

Part D
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KURJTSHmCqg This video is telling us howamricanization is helping peoplearound the world and how globalization is becomming greater. Positives talkingaround the worldhelpingthe world.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TwJdbyPYnMU This video is telling us how companies are runing and prices are runing the globalization. negatives Prices going up and goverment getting more money and not dealing with any issues.

Part E
The connection is between income per person and life expandancy is...Each person gettinga little bit more wealther while the world is growing.
proglobalization because in the video it shows the coloered dots geting bigger and moving higher up. The world was getting more money because of the trade.
The most intresting thing i learned was about the spanish flu epidemic.
Something i would like to learn more about is why the spanish flu epedemic was a big problem.

Unit 1: Blog entry

Part A
In this unit I learned that CRTC was in charge of our media like our television it helps keep the canadian culture. When we are watching american shows the CRTC makes sure that candaian shows are also being watched.
I found it really interesting that Canadians have trouble trying to be discovered because of all the American being discovered first.
I can connect what I have learned to another class such as dance because when we watch dancers to see the technique it is usually American dancers you don't usually see Canadian dancers on the videos and CRTC helps to put Canadian dancer on the videos we watch.
What surprised me in this unit was that the CRTC can make rules about the media to keep the Canadian culture.
One concept I am still having difficulty is trying to understand everything at once. I have to try and understand one thing at a time.
One question I still have is are the CRTC involved in the law?
One skill or learning strategy I found useful was the word wheel because in the end that would have been the more help full learning strategy in the end. You simply pick out 1 or 10 words and you try and connect them it gets difficult but I think it is usefulll and fun.

Part B
This picture is of outsourcing because it is a bunch of people working for one around the world to help and gain profits. Advantages to this is some people get paid money and dont have to do much. disadvantage is some loose thier jobs and dont get paid at all or very little.

Part C
This statement means that Bill 101 was negitive because it's not goverments role to create an idenity. Bill 101 was created to perserve the francphones identiy. They would have passed this law because they might have felt it was nesscary because the french launguge was dissapearing. So they passed Bill 101 to save there cultural identiey and collective identity. This would help keep Americanization and Transnational corps from fully taking advantage and changing their cultral.

Arguments in favour are
  • Yes because french laungaue is being perserved.
  • Being Bilingual can benifit immagrants
  • People don't forget their laungaue
  • Preserving lingustic identity
Arguments against are
  • Not fair to the people who do not speak french because they will not understand
  • Restrics others rights to choose
  • Could result to loss of launguage of, for others
  • Prevent anglaphone culture in Quebec

Blog entry 2

Part A: Reflection
I learned that Residential schools did not treat the children with respect the children were abuse and hurt in the schools. The aboriginal people tried to get an apology for a long time and were getting no attention for what was happening. The aboriginal people received an apology and money from the gov't.
I found it interesting  that we are finding out about this information now and not before when it was a real problem.
I can connect this to what i have learned in class with things out side of school such as abuse some kids receive abuse at home and it can hurt them the rest of their life.
What surprised me was that in the beginning of the unit i found residential schools boring and unimportant because i didn't care. When i found out a bit more about them i was interested and curious to why it happened.
One concept i'm still having difficulty with is understanding things right away it makes more sense when we take time to understand things.
One skill or strategy found useful was using the S.O.A.P.S (subject, occupation, audience, purpose, speaker)  or using the ts,f,o,f,o,cs (topic sentence, fact, opinion, fact, opinion, concluding sentence) they made writing  essays easier to write.

Part B: Early Economic Globalization
Mercantilism is a  trade that was controlled by government to gain their wealth. Many merchants wanted freedom to make their own money. After Mercantilism came Capitalism which is also another trade that was not controlled by government and their was competition between the stores. After Capitalism there was Industrialization that was similar to Capitalism except their was raw materials from all around the world and sold in markets. Industrialization led to Imperialism, Imperialsim is when one nation takes over another nation for territory or raw materials

 Part C: Impacts of Imperialism
The source of the white mans burden was very similar to the scramble of Africa they both civilized colonies.

Part D: Legacy of Imperialism
The legacy of  imperalism was was intenational trade passed down  through the world!
Part E: Connection to globalization

Globalization is greater interconnectedness and interdependence of the world. The things we have learned in class relate to globalization for example Imperialism was when bigger nations took over smaller nations.

My re-search projest on imperalism!

I am doing a social studies project with my friend krista.
We are doing a research projest on Rewanda.
A couple of facts we learned today was That the capital of rewanda is kagai and it sits on the conitent of Africa. They are christan catholic muslim and more. In Rewanda to ask for permistion to marrige you have to ask the father or the uncle. You have to present the family with food and beer. It is normaly warm out side but slightly cold near the mountins and it rains in january-april.
This is just alittle bit of information that i learned today.

Introduction to globalization part three

This picture represents how we communicate around the world. Every one has a fair part in the world on how we act and what we do. The hands all over the globe show how we try to connect and work together. If there was a money sign it would represent the economic fairs in life. The different colored  hands on the globe means the different types of religion and how we understand the difference between other countries.

Introduction to globalization part two

I have completed all the assignments that have been given and i have been taking all the notes in class.
I am not having very many difficulties it would be a little easier if we broke it down a little bit more so i can understand better.

My Goals
- To try and break things down by my self
- pay more attention to the teacher and not my phone.
