Unit 1: Blog entry

Part A
In this unit I learned that CRTC was in charge of our media like our television it helps keep the canadian culture. When we are watching american shows the CRTC makes sure that candaian shows are also being watched.
I found it really interesting that Canadians have trouble trying to be discovered because of all the American being discovered first.
I can connect what I have learned to another class such as dance because when we watch dancers to see the technique it is usually American dancers you don't usually see Canadian dancers on the videos and CRTC helps to put Canadian dancer on the videos we watch.
What surprised me in this unit was that the CRTC can make rules about the media to keep the Canadian culture.
One concept I am still having difficulty is trying to understand everything at once. I have to try and understand one thing at a time.
One question I still have is are the CRTC involved in the law?
One skill or learning strategy I found useful was the word wheel because in the end that would have been the more help full learning strategy in the end. You simply pick out 1 or 10 words and you try and connect them it gets difficult but I think it is usefulll and fun.

Part B
This picture is of outsourcing because it is a bunch of people working for one around the world to help and gain profits. Advantages to this is some people get paid money and dont have to do much. disadvantage is some loose thier jobs and dont get paid at all or very little.

Part C
This statement means that Bill 101 was negitive because it's not goverments role to create an idenity. Bill 101 was created to perserve the francphones identiy. They would have passed this law because they might have felt it was nesscary because the french launguge was dissapearing. So they passed Bill 101 to save there cultural identiey and collective identity. This would help keep Americanization and Transnational corps from fully taking advantage and changing their cultral.

Arguments in favour are
  • Yes because french laungaue is being perserved.
  • Being Bilingual can benifit immagrants
  • People don't forget their laungaue
  • Preserving lingustic identity
Arguments against are
  • Not fair to the people who do not speak french because they will not understand
  • Restrics others rights to choose
  • Could result to loss of launguage of, for others
  • Prevent anglaphone culture in Quebec
